The Health Benefits of Beer

Beer, like red wine, when consumed in moderate amount, does have health benefits. The experts even maintain that beer is better for you than wine. According to American Dietetic Association¡¦s spokesperson Andrea Giancoli in a news release in 2011, moderate consumption of beer has shown to increase HDL cholesterol (good), lower LDL cholesterol (bad), and reduce the risk of blood clotting.

The malt and hops used in beer contain flavonoids, which counter cell damage and help reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. Beer also contains valuable B-vitamins, such as B12, folic acid and niacin, as well as antioxidants¡Xmaking it the healthier choice, contrary to popular opinion. The soluble fibers in beer are good for digestion. And beer does not contain fat or cholesterol and is low in free sugars.

The upshot is, if taken in moderation, beer will work wonders for overall health and the heart in particular. Just remember that too much of a good thing is also bad! Enjoy responsibly!
